Four years ago today...
I was on a plane to Honduras. Dressed in the suit I was going to bury my dad in.
I was picked up at the airport and taken straight to the funeral home where my mom was waiting. She was happy to see me and smiled. But you could tell there was pain behind those eyes. That was the last time I ever saw him.
After the burial, I finally went home and straight to his room. There was his recliner,...

My mom just lost one of her good friends to cancer today. And just a few short months ago you never would have suspected there was anything wrong with her.
The news hit my mom hard, since she is the 3rd person she has lost to cancer in the past 4 years. The other two being my dad and my grandfather (her dad).
The news hits home for me too since I knew her well. She was always so nice and...

Weekend options...
So I’m dropping E off at Dulles Saturday morning because she’s going to LR for some weddings. And since I’ll be home alone, I am seriously considering going somewhere different with Bruce and Milo for the weekend.
So far, I’m thinking Philly or NYC.
Any suggestions?

It's official!!!
My first paid coffee catering event is scheduled for May 18th. It’s an outdoor wedding.
Time to get my business license, uniforms, logo, business card, facebook page, website/logo, etc. figured out.

3 more miles today. And I didn’t feel sore at all which surprised me a little considering my running hiatus. Once I started going up those hills, however, I could tell my legs were not fully recovered from yesterday’s run. Not too bad, though.
Tomorrow I need to make sure I avoid running while hungry. My route passes right by one of James Madison University’s dining halls and...

So yesterday, I finally went running again. It had been at least 2 weeks and I was certain I would have to stop to catch my breath on the hills every now and then. But to my surprise, I didn’t have to stop at all. It seems I still do have a little shred of endurance left somewhere deep inside. It’s pretty sad when you’re happy you can run 3 miles without stopping after having...

Personal Rant
I miss running. And regular work hours. It’s been several weeks since things have been normal for me.
This renovation project I’m working on has a crazy tight, almost unrealistic schedule. Which means 10 - 12 hour work days every day plus some more on weekends. When I get home I am worn out and want to do absolutely nothing.
Humans were designed for moving around, scavenging, hunting. We were...

Easter Weekend
This weekend I am staying outside of Scranton/Dunmore, Pennsylvania with some of E’s family for Easter.
People here are proud of their heritage. You are either Irish, Polish, Italian, or a combination of these. And they cling to their native traditions. I’ve never had Easter breakfast that had been blessed a priest before. Or had beer and kielbasa with breakfast. But I love it. I...

March Goals
1. Lose 10 pounds.
The past 3 years I have put on almost 30 pounds. It all began when my ex-wife told me she wanted a divorce. And as if that was not bad enough, my dad lost his battle to lung cancer one week later. The months that followed were the darkest moments of my life. And I sank into a deep depression that took quite a while to shake off. My healthy eating stopped. Running/weight...
