So what bike to get?

I went to one of the local bike shops right after work today and checked out their 3 road bike brands: Trek, Giant, and Specialized.

As far as looks go, I really like Giant and Specialized better. And if I had to pick one, I think I would go with the Specialized Allez. Tomorrow I get to test ride both to see which one I like best. Apparently bike geometry has a lot to do with how comfortable you are on a bike.

As excited as I am about getting a road bike in the next few weeks, I cringe at the thought of spending $1,100+ on a bike. And on top of that, padded shorts ($60+) and pedals ($100+) and cycling shoes ($90+). Good grief!!! Are there website out there where I can buy all these other accessories at a discount?

I guess I’ll have to come to terms with the fact that this how much these entry-level bikes cost. And I have to see it as an investment in my health. That is really the only way for me to justify the expense.

Hopefully, by next month you guys will start to see cycling posts from me!
